About Our Farm

Our heritage farm is located in Ossining, NY, where our family has stewarded the land for nearly 100 years. Currently, three generations of our extended family share the farm as home, and we are blessed to live and work in this beautiful cradle of land. We have grown vegetables, herbs & flowers, as well as kept laying hens here for our family for 30 years. In 2008 we started a business in order to keep our family farm viable, with horse boarding and a small, organic market garden. During the 2008 & 2009 seasons, we had a farmstand once a week here at the farm, and a booth at the nearby Muscoot Farmer’s Market on Sundays http://www.muscootfarm.org/farmersmarket.htm. In 2010 we made the decision to sell only direct from the farm, through our weekly produce order system, which was very well-received during the 2009 season.

We’re immensely grateful for our wonderful, dedicated customers, who supported us so enthusiastically during our first two growing seasons. You inspire us to grow the most vibrant, nutritious, sustainable food we can!

We believe that local food systems are vital for the sustainable future of our community and country. Members of our family have been gardeners for generations, and we care deeply about the health of our land and our ecosystem. All of our crops are sustainably grown (chemical and pesticide-free), using only organic soil amendments, our own compost, and natural pest control methods. Although we are not certified organic, our fields have never been sprayed, and we are blessed with excellent soil full of minerals from an ancient glacial silt deposit.

We are committed to ecologically healthy growing, and take the NOFA-NY "Farmer's Pledge" each year, to use only sustainable farming methods:

Our Mission

Our intention is to grow nutritionally vibrant vegetable food & aesthetically-enlivening flowers in an integrated, organic garden setting, and to grow our bodies, minds & spirits through the journey.

We established the vegetable and flower gardens at Kitchawan Farm to grow fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or inorganic fertilizers. This allows us to produce a healthy, nutrient-rich crop, while protecting our soil, forests, and local watershed.

All of the vegetables, herbs, and flowers that we grow are sold locally, direct from the farm, minimizing the energy needed to transport them to consumers, and ensuring their ultimate freshness.

Many of the vegetables that we grow are heirloom varieties. These traditional varieties were developed for their special flavors, not for the ability to hold up to long distance transport or time spent on the supermarket shelf. You can taste the difference in vegetables that are grown with this level of care and eaten shortly after they are harvested.
